Can these Spanish phrases be considered idioms?
Any expression can seem as if it's an idiom, if the reader doesn't know the word and its meaning(s).
  These expressions are frequently heard in Spanish, but they're all subject to understanding when the words are known.
  A few of these words, however, have meanings that may have passed out of current usage, which might qualify the expression as an idiom.
